Welcome to Linux Mint 16 install and overview. This one is an easy one for me because I have been using Linux Mint 16 for the past month and a half. The only difference is I've been using XFCE instead of Cinnamon. This is a continuing series and due to the certain similarities I have omitted some install steps. If you need to reference these you can look at a few of my previous posts.
Upon boot you will need to click on the Install icon to start the install. After doing all the normal install screens you will pick your username and password, again, use a better password than what I used.
Once you complete the install and restart go ahead and log in to start exploring.
A nice little popup after logging in will appear. Here you have immediate access to everything you could need or want to know about this distribution.
Clicking on Menu you can see all the categories to find the programs that are installed. Easy to view and a wonderful way to find all your applications. You will have Libre Office, Gimp and some of the more major programs that a lot of the distributions choose to include with the install.
Easy and functional settings to change your desktop appearance. Right click on your desktop and click on settings to access this.
Changing settings is all in an easy format, you can pin programs easily to your panels and and change just about anything to format it to your needs.
As with Kubuntu there is a software manager to easily find programs that you will need. Just by choosing a category you have access to tens of thousands of programs to fit your computer needs.
Each program offers reviews, screenshots, and an easy install. It's never hard to decide or try out any of the programs. If you don't like it just uninstall and try another.
A great distribution with a lot to offer in functionality and stability. An easy one to use for any beginner. Next post: Mint 16 with Cinnamon Review.
